Accessory shop owner, contractor to die for drug trafficking

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman passed out in the High Court here today after knowing that her son was sentenced to death for drug trafficking.
She looked calm when Judicial Commissioner Datuk Nordin Hassan handed down the sentence, but collapsed when the court interpreter was explaining the sentence that was meted out on Hoo Moon Hong, 37.
Nordin sentenced Hoo and a contractor, Ng Kim Chong, 37, to death by hanging after finding them guilty of trafficking in 250.2g of various drugs two years ago.
When handing down the sentence, he said the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubts against the prosecution case.
"The first accused (Ng) confessed to having received a plastic bag and placed it at the back of a car, but denied the plastic bag contained drug, (while) the 10th prosecution witness (SP10), who is a police inspector, testified that the drug was found (in a packet in the car).
"I don't see any reason for SP10 to victimise the accused by saying that the plastic containing the drug was seized. The testimony by SP10 was consistent," he added.
As for Hoo, Nordin said the drug was seized from the gear box of a car belonging to Hoo and that Hoo's finger prints were on the packet containing the drug.
Ng, who owns an accessory shop, was charged with trafficking in 38.3g of heroin and monoacetylmorphines at G Tower Building, Jalan Tun Razak here, at 9.10pm on Feb 11, 2015.
As for Hoo, he was charged with trafficking in 211.9gm of methamphetamine (syabu) and ecstasy at the car park of the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters at 1.50 am on Feb 12, 2015
They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Ezrene Zakariah, while Hoo and Ng were represented by lawyer Datuk P. Nagarajan. — Bernama
