KUALA LUMPUR: A quarrel between a divorced couple turned deadly when the ex-husband shot and killed his ex-wife before shooting himself at an office building at Jalan Chow Kit, this afternoon.
The incident took place at a law firm on the 16th floor of Menara Centara where the wife was working.
City CID chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa said that police received a call at around 3pm on the incident.
"When the police got there they found two dead bodies with gunshot wounds," he said.
Rusdi revealed that the 51 year-old Indian male had come to confront his ex-wife, a 46 year old Indian, at her workplace.
Eyewitnesses at the scene had told the police that they had heard the couple arguing at the corridor of the office before the shots were fired.
"During the argument, the man shot his wife on her left leg and her back before turning the gun on himself. He had shot himself in the head," said Rusdi at a press conference at the scene.
"He came to the office armed with a parang and an automatic weapon," he said.
Rusdi said that there had been some 20 staff working at the office at the time.
He also said that this was not the first time the man had accosted his ex-wife at her workplace since their divorce five years ago.
"Before the law firm moved to this building, the husband had also harassed her at the firm's old office at Dang Wangi," he said.
He said the case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Rusdi revealed that the husband had also previously been charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
Rusdi revealed that the couple have three children and they have been notified of the tragedy.
The building was evacuated but staff were let back in at around 6pm.
