PETALING JAYA: Be it the morning roti canai, evening teh tarik, or late night ais kosong while watching football on the big screens, Malaysians have always had a soft spot for mamak restaurants.
One local guy took his love for mamak restaurants one notch higher when he collaborated with Maxman TV, a channel which promotes itself as a social experiments site, and rapped a full song in several of these eateries.
The rap video which was posted on Maxman TV's Facebook page on Feb 3, showed Ashtin Sanjiv, an emcee cum songwriter, rapping to the waiters on the uniqueness of these restaurants that we have come accustomed to.
The 2-minute 14-second "Mamak Rap" clip has since garnered over a thousand reactions and shared over 800 times as at press time, many intrigued by the rap by Ahstin, also popularly known among the local rap industry as ashtinonthemic.
One user UNwar Ahmad, while tagging his friends, commented: "We should do this the next time we order. Rare stuff."
Another user, Muhammad Isyraf Imran, even asked that Ashtin do another rap song about fast food outlets such as McDonald's and KFC.
Some were also amused, pointing how the waiters seemed lost when Ashtin was rapping his rhymes.

Here are some of the lines in the song we felt were pretty amazing:
"I suka makanan disini just like the rest.
Anneh saya tak tipu makanan memang best
Sebelum mintak order bagi saya sambung.
Saya budak bandar tapi suka nasi goreng kampung."
"Tunggu anneh saya belum habis air sudah habis.
Saya nak ais kosong tapi kurang manis.
    Just joking, saya nak Coca-Cola.
I suka duduk sini sebab suka tengok bola."
