MALAYSIA has been ranked as the sixth best country in the world for Americans to retire, thanks to its low cost of living and high quality health care.
According to International Living's Annual Global Retirement Index for 2017, Malaysia is one of the top 10 destinations, and the only Asian country on the list!
Thailand, which was No. 7 in last year's rankings, fell out of the Top 10 this time around.
Malaysia was cited as a "nexus for world cultures" due to its multicultural background, making it easy for expats to fit in.
International Living also hailed Malaysia's idyllic islands, stunning beaches and untouched rainforests as well as its "world class" food and shopping.
This year's study is based on 24 countries measured against each other on 10 factors: buying & renting, benefits & discounts, visas & residence, cost of living, fitting in, entertainment & amenities, healthcare, healthy lifestyle, infrastructure and climate.
Topping the list this year is Mexico, which scored high for its affordable cost of living - you can live well there for under US$1,200 a month - and its entertainment and amenities.
Mexico knocked off last year’s No. 1 Panama, which came in second this year.
The Central American country is described as modern with top-notch internet connection, a friendly environment and to top it off, it's incredibly easy to get a residency visa.
The other countries listed are Ecuador (No. 3), Costa Rica (No. 4), Colombia (No. 5), Spain (No. 7), Nicaragua (No. 8), Portugal (No. 9) and Malta (No.10).
