IPOH: The Perak government intends to turn the Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah Discussion into an international event, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (pix).
He said the organising of the discussion appeared to be expanding and could be used as the best example for countries in the region such as Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore and Thailand.
"By holding the discussion, what is most important is to create a harmonious community which could use Perak as an example in terms of a good debate.
"What was presented in the resolution of the discussion was more towards strengthening the Islamic institution and it forms the best example in merging all the groups regardless whether they were ulama, scholars and academics," he told reporters after officiating the closing ceremony, here today.
The three-day discussion beginning Sunday was opened by the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah yesterday.
Meanwhile, commenting on the speech by Sultan Nazrin Shah yesterday who criticised the attitude of a handful of Malays who seemed to have forgotten their past difficulties after achieving some success, Zambry said it was an important reminder to the Malays in this country.
"This is because when we have tasted success and living in a sophisticated world, we appear to have succeeded and we tend to forget everything else," he said. — Bernama
