JOHOR BARU: DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang (pix) has called on all Malaysians who have attained the age of 21 and above to register themselves as voters with the Election Commission (EC).
"It is important as Malaysians we exercise our voting rights. For this, we must register to vote with the nearest EC office," he said after attending the state DAP giving out milk to those participating in the Thaipusam procession in Skudai here today.
To vote in the coming general election, Lim, also the MP of Gelang Patah since 2013, said those who have yet to register should do so immediately.
However, when asked if he would defend Gelang Patah parliamentary seat, he declined to comment.
Earlier, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said Lim is known for changing his constituency in the past, and thus there is no indication where he will defend the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat.
Lim who is DAP advisor declined to comment whether the party will field new faces in the coming general election.
There are 56 seats in the Johor legislative assembly.
In the 2013 general election, BN won 38 seats while DAP 13, PAS four and PKR one under the defunct Pakatan Rakyat.
