LANGKAWI: A funicular train service similar to the one at Penang Hill has been proposed to be built at Gunung Raya as a development that could promote the highest mountain in Langkawi as another tourist attraction.
Making this suggestion today, Member of Parliament for Langkawi, Datuk Ir Nawawi Ahmad said such a service will enable more tourists to reach the mountain peak and experience a different weather and panoramic view of the island.
"The weather is cooler at the top of the mountain and tourists who enjoyed such great environment would definitely enjoy themselves there," he told reporters after the launching of the 3D Art Langkawi new product and new gondolas for the Langkawi Sky Cab at the Oriental Village here.
He said the successful business model employed by the Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) through its subsidiary, Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd, to promote the Langkawi Sky Cab cable car could be applied to promote tourism at Gunung Raya.
"I am willing to share the expertise of our railway engineers in designing the project," said Nawawi, who is also the chairman of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB). — Bernama
