BUTTERWORTH: A mother wants to know what happened to her son who is currently unconscious at the ICU of the Seberang Jaya Hospital after he was sentenced to jail for a criminal offence.

P. Pachaee, 59, said her 42-year-old son was healthy the last time she saw him on Jan 20 when he was interred at the prison in Jawi.

She said she was informed her son was admitted at night on Feb 8 and was shocked to see his condition the following day when she visited him.

"There was bruises all over his face," she said in a press conference today with Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramasamy.

Pacahee claimed injuries were visible on the head and forehead while there were bruises on the legs while the toe nails were missing.

She alleged she was told the injuries were self-inflicted when she sought an explanation from prison officials on Feb 10.

"I am his mother, I know how my son is," she said, dismissing the explanation and has since lodged a police report on the matter.

Ramasamy, who is also Perai assemblyman, said he has also visited the labourer and was shocked to see his condition.
He said it would take a considerable effort on the part of medical staff to nurse him part to health.

He said Penang police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye has told him police would investigate and an inquiry would be initiated.

"Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) Datuk Yacob Md Sam has been informed and he has promised to act," he added.

South Seberang Prai police chief Supt Shafee Abdul Samad confirmed a report has been lodged.
