Race, religion don't matter in organ donations (Video)

KUALA LUMPUR: Organ donations do not take into account a person's race, religion, or status in society.
"This means that non-Muslims can donate organs to Muslims and others (those prescribed to different faiths), which includes blood donations," Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (pix) said in a statement today.
He added that fatwas, or edicts, have been issued as early as 1970 on this issue.
"There have also been religious authorities who have explained the matter, and it is not an obstacle if a Muslim receives an organ or blood from non-Muslims," he added.
In strengthening his stand, he attached a 3 minute 44 seconds Youtube clip from Derma Organ TV which included seven individuals, among them former Johor mufti Datuk Noh Gadut, Perak mufti Tan Sri Dr. Harussani Zakaria and former National Fatwa Council chairman Datuk Dr. Ismail Ibrahim who concurred on this note.
"Islam allows (membenarkan) and encourages (mengharuskan) Muslims to accept organs from non-Muslims," said Noh.
Noor Hisham was responding to a question on Youtube by entertainer Wee Meng Chee, or better known as Namewee, if it was possible for non-Muslims, such as himself, to donate his organ or blood to Muslims.
