Gerakan presents Guan Eng with Valentine's Day gift

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan made heads turn when they presented a Valentine's Day gift to a most unlikely recipient, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
The gift came in the form of a printed t-shirt with the words "I Love Penang."

The love however, did not go far as the words "Let's make more profit" in Mandarin was also cheekily printed on the t-shirt.

The unusual gift was given to Lim by state Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong to State Information Officer Zainal Zahar at Komtar today.

Prior to the presentation, Oh said the "I Love Penang" slogan should not remain mere words but be practiced by those in Penang.

He said what was needed for the people was sincerity from the state, not slogans and criticised the proposed undersea tunnel project, increasing housing prices, flash floods and traffic congestion issues.

"I like to advise the Penang government not to forget the difficulties faced by the people with this gift," he said.

Lim used the slogan as a call to protest against the suggestion by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor to make Penang a federal territory.
