THOSE aspiring to become medical doctors have an alternative and more efficient route to medical school, the Foundation Certificate at Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed).
What is the Foundation Certificate?
Based in Malaysia at Newcastle University's fully-owned medical campus NUMed, the Foundation Certificate in Biological and Biomedical Science is a 12-month course that you take instead of your final year of A-levels.
If you meet the tailored course’s requirements, there is an added bonus – you secure a place at NUMed.
As opposed to A-levels, the course will fully prepare you to study medicine or biomedicine at the university with tailored modules such as “Foundation of Medical Studies”, and hands-on classes such as “An Introduction to Anatomy”, giving you the opportunity to experience life as a medical student. You will also be taught Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, English and Medical Studies as these subjects are vital in the field of medicine.
NUMed’s Foundation Certificate will give you the opportunity to learn about all the courses on offer such as the MBBS and BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science programmes. On campus, you will also be integrated with students who are already on the programmes, and you will be taught by the lecturers of those courses.

About NUMed
Newcastle University UK, has established an international branch campus in Johor, Malaysia to provide its undergraduate degrees in Medicine (MBBS) and the Biomedical Sciences (BSc). Both programmes offer opportunities for periods of study in the UK. A one-year Foundation Certificate in Biological and Biomedical Sciences is also available, the successful completion of which will lead to progression to the MBBS or BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences programme.
All programmes of study are equivalent to those of Newcastle's UK-based provision, and lead to the award of the same degrees.
