Annuar Musa in 'cooling period' ahead of FAM elections

PETALING JAYA: Just a day after the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed the shortlist for its presidency, candidate Tan Sri Annuar Musa said he would restrict comments that could affect the election.
The former Kelantan Football Association (Kafa) president, who will be up against Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim for the post, said he would use this period to have discussions with all relevant quarters on the plans and direction of the country's football.
"To ensure a harmonious election that is full of goodwill, openness and friendship, I intend to have a 'cooling period' by minimising comments and statements for at least two weeks until I have completed my umrah in Mecca.
"I will make use of this time to discuss with the others, and listen to the views and insights of all the affiliate members, especially those who will be voting," he said in a Facebook post early today morning.
Annuar said having a clean, transparent and corruption-free campaign leading up to the election was vital, especially after Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad made the honorary move to vacate his FAM president post to open the room for a new leadership.
Annuar also noted that helming FAM is unlike simply managing a football team, and that a tough job awaits the new leadership.
"Individual strength alone would not suffice. It (managing FAM) requires strong teamwork, leadership and comradeship," he said.
The executive committee elections, which was initially slated for 2018, was brought forward to March 25 this year during the national football congress, to fill the vacant seat.
Aside from the president's post, four other candidates will be contesting for the deputy presidency, nine for vice-president, with 17 male and seven female candidates for the exco positions.
