Coordination meeting to set job scope, Rela personnel allowance in ESSZone: Zulkifli

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Volunteers Corps (Rela) will hold a coordination meeting on the detailed job scope of its personnel assigned to the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).

Its director-general Zulkifli Abidin (pix) said the meeting, expected to be held soon, would also discuss the personnel equipment requirement and allowance provisions for personnel on duty in ESSZone.

"A coordination meeting will be held with the relevant parties, including the National Security Council; Royal Malaysia police and Malaysian Armed Forced on the matter," he told Bernama here today.

At the national level Rela Day celebrations that was held for the first time in Sabah on Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that Rela personnel would be stationed in ESSZone to help security and enforcement personnel carry out their duties.

The Home Minister also said the role of Rela personnel in ESSZone was as a supplementary team to the police and military forces.

ESSZone is under the supervision of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom).

Zulkifli also expressed his appreciation on the confidence given to Rela as it was the government's recognition of its role in jointly safeguarding the country's peace and security, especially in Sabah. — Bernama
