PETALING JAYA: A mobile application promoting a better understanding of PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang's proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) has surfaced.
The application, titled RUU355, was developed by Ilmiah Resources and is available on the Google Playstore for free.
"Help you to understand well of (sic) Bill 355! Spread this benefit to others," a brief description of the application in English read.
The application includes RUU355 roadshow activity calendars, infographic collections, videos, online news of the Bill, gathering locations, and live-streaming (soon to come) among others.
It has 37 user reviews so far and has an aggregate score of 4.9 out of 5 stars, with some users saying this is the best platform to spread better understanding of the Bill.
However, some users who gave low ratings noted the application's long loading time.
Abdul Hadi, who is Marang MP, tabled a private member's Bill in Parliament to strengthen the Syariah Courts in May last year, with many detractors saying it is the prelude to Hudud implementation in Kelantan, and Malaysia by extension.
Supporters of the Bill, however, say it serves only to strengthen the Syariah Courts while the tougher penalties prescribed will help curb crime, and it will only apply to Muslims.
While the punishments were previously left vague by Abdul Hadi, the government have since taken over the Bill and drafted the punitive measures involved.
The Bill, which is expected to be debated when the Dewan Rakyat convenes next month, will increase punishments from the current maximum of three years in jail to 30 years, from a maximum fine of RM5,000 to RM100,000, and the maximum number of lashes from 6 to 100.
