JOHOR BARU: Seven policemen who were involved in drug abuse, in the state, have been sacked in the past two months.
The policemen aged below 30 were low ranking police personnel such as corporals and sergeants.
Johor police chief Datuk Seri Comm Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said they were among the 64 policemen the State Narcotics Department were investigating for synthesis drug abuse such as Methamphetamine (syabu), ketamine and other drugs since last year.
For Johor, he added, the ratio of policemen involved in drug abuse was insignificant compared with the more than 10,000 policemen working in the state.
However, he said, they do take the matter seriously and thus have implemented the drug and discipline control scheme to manage those who abuse drugs within the force.
To curb the problem within, Wan Ahmad said all department heads have been directed to do ad hoc urine test on suspected drug users.
"It is only then we can confirm whether they are on drugs," he said after attending state police contingent monthly assembly at Dataran Kawad FRU today.
He added investigations revealed that these men were influenced into drugs by friends or their living lifestyle.
