KUALA LUMPUR: Police have given approval for the use of Padang Merbok as the venue for the "RUU355" gathering this Saturday.
Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Mohd Sukri Kaman said the gathering, organised by PAS in support of the proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, will be held from 3pm to midnight.
"Dataran Merdeka and parts of Jalan Parlimen will be closed from 8am till midnight. We hope the organisers and rally-goers comply with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and instructions from the police," he said in a statement today.
Last week, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had also given approval for the venue to be used for the gathering.
Mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said City Hall had no objection so long as the organisers adhere to all the existing laws.
PAS had earlier applied to use Dataran Merdeka for the gathering, but City Hall turned down the request.
