No bauxite mining in Lundu and Sematan: Wan Junaidi

LUNDU: Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar assured that there will be no bauxite mining activities in Lundu and Sematan.
He said as the minister in charge of natural resources and environment, he would never allow mining activities to take place because it would pollute the place here which is planned as a tourism hub.
"Any company that intend to do bauxite mining here can forget about such plans because as the minister in charge I have the authority and I am not going to give any AP for them to export the products," he said.
Wan Junaidi who is also Member of Parliament for Santubong said a three-acre land in Lundu will be acquired for the Chinese cemetery here.
He was speaking during the Chinese New Year dinner held at the newly completed SJKC Chung Hua multi-purpose hall here tonight.
Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg was the guest-of -honour in the event that was attended by more than 1,000 people from the Chinese community in Lundu and Sematan sub district.
The function was jointly organised by 59 Chinese associations in the Lundu district and Sematan sub district, including temples, youth bodies and village development and security committee.
Also present at the function were Second Minister of Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Sarawak Local Government Minister Datuk Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) president and several party leaders. — Bernama
