A chance to study in Japan

A Memorandum of Agreement was signed between DISTED College and Toyohashi University of Technology on Dec 18 last year at the Yeap Chor Ee Heritage Campus in DISTED College, Penang.

The MOA provides prospective students from DISTED’s School of Computing and Engineering diploma programme a direct articulation option to Japan’s distinguished Toyohashi University of Technology and many other Japanese universities to earn a bachelor’s degree.

DISTED College President and CEO Dr Seah Soo Aun and Toyohashi University of Technology president Dr Takashi Onishi initiated the agreement respectively.

“More specifically, it is the first of such transfer programme between a Malaysian private institution of higher learning and a Japanese university.

“It is opened to all Malaysian and international students who wish to pursue their studies in the field of Computing and Electronic Engineering and earn an undergraduate or even a postgraduate qualification in Japan,” Seah said during his speech.

He noted that students under this DISTED Japanese Transfer Programme will complete their three-year Diploma in Computer Science or Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering locally, and will embark on another two years to complete Toyohashi University’s computing or electronic engineering degree programme in Japan.

Other distinguished guests who witnessed the MOA signing included Wawasan Education Foundation Chairman and Wawasan Open University Pro-Chancellor Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, DISTED College’s Board of Directors chairman Datuk Seri Stephen Yeap, as well as industry and academic leaders.

In addition, DISTED will establish a DISTED Scholarship and Bursary Award fund to further encourage prospective students to pursue this prestigious programme at DISTED College. In conjunction with this historical event, DISTED also held its Open Day on Dec 17 and 18, offering rebates and scholarships to deserving and needy students.
