Fisherman gets jail, rotan for stealing formula milk

PETALING JAYA: A fishmonger who is serving a prison sentence for stealing formula milk, was sentenced to 20 months' jail and three strokes of the rotan by the Magistrate's Court here, for repeating the offence.
Magistrate Salamiah Salleh sentenced Satria Sisa, 42, after he pleaded guilty to stealing 19 boxes of various brands of baby formula, worth RM2,171.20 from the 99 Speedmart in Ara Damansara here, at 8pm, on April 18 last year.
Before this, the accused had been arrested several times and convicted of the same offence since June 2016 and is currently serving 18 months in prison for a similar offence in Sungai Udang Prison, Malacca.
He was ordered to serve the sentence from today.
Deputy public prosecutor Mary Phoon Keat Mee prosecuted while the accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded that he had repented and promised not to commit the same offence in the future. — Bernama
