Glimpse into the life of a model

IF you thought the modelling world was all glitz and glamour, then think again. From veteran supermodels like Miranda Kerr and Heidi Klum to up-and-coming bombshells like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid who are raking in big bucks and enjoying soaring stardom, a model's life seems heavenly.
Alas, the journey to fame and fortune in the cutthroat fashion industry is a tough one for aspiring models who are just starting out in the frenzied modelling world.
Comedy Central UK's I Live With Models gives viewers a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes – and it's not all about rubbing shoulders with renowned designers or getting invited to flashy parties.
The show follows the lives of a group of young models forced to live with a sloppy accidental hand model, Tommy – resulting in hilarious hijinks and misadventures.
Season 2 will see the main characters Scarlet and Tommy moving to New York City, the epicentre of fashion.
theSun spoke to American actress Brianne Howey who plays Scarlet, an attractive runway model with a type-A personality, not very different from Howey in real life. "I have Scarlet's type-A temperament - organised and punctual. I love how seriously she takes everything, and goes above and beyond with any task given to her," the 28-year-old told us via email.
Speaking of her character's tense relationship with hand model Tommy, Howey said it boils down to the fact that they are polar opposites.
While Scarlet is a perfectionist, Tommy is lazy and untidy with a bad work ethic. "However, once they make the big move to New York together, they are both outside of their comfort zones and are able to see a new side in each other. They both want to accomplish the same things and how much easier it is to have a friend by your side throughout the process," Howey shared, adding that Scarlet soon grows to love Tommy like the brother she never had.
Howey herself has never had bad experiences with roommates, admitting that her college roommate remains one of her closest friends. "Maybe that's because I pulled a Scarlet and took the roommate compatibility questionnaire very seriously beforehand," she quipped.
While her character is on a path to pursue her modelling dreams on the show, Howey too looks set to flourish into a rising star in the industry by taking on diverse roles.
The versatile actress recently starred in horror series The Exorcist and has had cameos in Horrible Bosses 2 and parody horror series Scream Queens – and she has transitioned well from dramas to comedies. "After shooting something so dark and serious, you are more than ready to move on to something more light-hearted. It's a wonderful experience," the talented actress said.
Howey said she now has a new-found respect for models, and realises the reality of how hard it is to pursue a career "where the odds aren't in your favour".
She also gushed about moving to London to film the series, and soaking in the new culture and people. Noting that British audiences appreciated dry humour, the actors sometimes had to shoot alternate lines to be used for the British audience.
"That's what is so wonderful about a show like I Live With Models; our themes of juggling friendship, careers and love in your 20s are all very relatable and universal."
In the new season, the characters will juggle new roommates, a new agent and a new town with much more competition. "In season one they are big fish in a small pond and in season two they are small naïve fishe in a very big busy pond. The show portrays it all, the insecurity and self-doubt but also the victory and success, without missing a comedic beat of course," Howey added.
I Live With Models premieres tomorrow, Saturday Feb 18, at 10.10pm on Hypp TV Channel 609.
