KUALA LUMPUR: Four armed men staged a daring afternoon heist at a jewellery shop in Endah Parade in Sri Petaling here and carted away 20 trays of jewellery worth RM700,000 today.
Brickfields district police chief ACP Shahrul Othman said the robbery took place at 1.17pm at the ground floor of the shopping centre.
He said the four suspects were armed with a pistol and several tools which they used to smash the glass casings in the shop.
Shahrul said the robbers scooped 20 trays filled with an assortment of jewellery.
Five employees were in the shop including one security guard armed with a pistol at the main entrance, he added.
"One of them, who is armed with pistol, assaulted the security guard. He kept watch while pointing his pistol at the guard. His three accomplices smashed the showcase. After the heist, the suspects fled the scene in a gold Toyota Wish," he said in a statement today.
Shahrul said investigators recovered close-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage and four broken glass shards from the scene of the crime. The evidence has been sent for forensic analysis.
He said investigators are gathering clues to trace the identities and whereabouts of the robbers.
"The robbers also took the security guard's revolver," added Shahrul.
