GEORGE TOWN: There is no way DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang will become Prime minister if the opposition assumes federal power, those attending a ceramah in Balik Pulau, near here, were told on Saturday night.
The assertion was made by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who was speaking to a crowd of some 1,500.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malysia (PPBM) president said the DAP was a small party and so could not ascend to the premiership.
He said the current Gelang Patah MP could not become the premier unless the Malays themselves wanted it to be so.
"There is talk that Kit Siang will be prime minister if the opposition wins, nonsense," he said.
Present was Penang Local Government Committee chairman and state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow and Nibong Tebal MP cum state PKR chairman Datuk Mansor Othman among others.
Mahathir was accompanied by his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
