7 students to represent Malaysia in robotics competition in US

NILAI: Seven students have been selected to represent Malaysia in the "FIRST Global Challenge" robotics competition in Washington, United States (US) on July 16 to 18.
The students, aged 15 and 17 years, are Raja Adam Ahmad Raja Iskandar from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kubang Kerian, Muhammad Razif Jamil (Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Lenggong), Janice Poh Zi Yi (SMK Convent Taiping), Muhammad Rais (Sekolah Menengah Sains Sultan Mahmud), Muhammad Arash Danial Mohd Hamdan (Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Johor Baru) and Khairul Amirin Syahrean and Muhammad Fakhrul Khir Abdul Samat (Malay College Kuala Kangsar).
The principal of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar, Anand Baharuddin will be the teacher accompanying them as their mentor.
Robotics Learning (M) Sdn Bhd, managing director, Ilylia Kamaruzaman said they were selected from among 500 students from 2,000 schools nationwide who applied.
We then shortlisted 50 students to be interviewed via Skype in the second round and eventually only seven were selected.
"The FIRST robotics competition involves 120 countries. Our company (Robotics Learning (M) Sdn Bhd) was appointed by International FIRST Committee to introduce the programme known as FIRST Global (www.first.global)."
She said this to reporters after the 'Malaysia 2017 VEX Robotics Competition' was officiated by Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) Pro-Chancellor Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz here, today.
Ilylia said her company had introduced the robotics programme since 2009 and believed many Malaysian students can become experts in the field of high-tech robotics if given the opportunity.
About the "2017 Malaysia VEX Robotics Competition", she said it was in line with the vision and goals of the Ministry of Education to ensure more students get involved in STEM studies. — Bernama
