January vehicle sales almost flat: MAA

PETALING JAYA: Vehicle sales in January 2017 were almost flat at 44,667 units, similar to 44,589 units a year ago, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
The marginal 0.2% jump was due to the continuation of aggressive sales and marketing campaigns for the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations.

Otherwise, sales were flat due to the shorter working month in conjunction with the CNY holidays, while the impact of floods in the East Coast has yet to fully recede.
MAA said sales volume for this month is expected to be lower than in January due to a short working month post-Chinese New Year.
Meanwhile, vehicle production in January 2017 fell 2.3% to 45,532 units from 46,651 units in the previous year's corresponding month.
