Johor MB should re-register as a voter with home address: Maria Chin

PETALING JAYA: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin must immediately re-register himself as a voter using his home address instead of his office address.
Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah said this is because National Registration Regulations state that a person's address on the IC, which is reflected by a voter's address, must reflect his or her place of residence.
"This means it is unacceptable to have an office address for IC registration.
"In the same vein, as all voters' registration needs to follow the address in the IC to reflect residence, it is already a mistake for the Election Commission to have registered Khaled as a voter using his office address," Maria said in a statement today.
She then questioned Khaled's intentions of registering as a voter using the office address of his Permas state constituency service centre, which can be open to abuse to register more voters in a single address.
Maria also pointed out that the office address, which is also where the Pasir Gudang Umno Headquarters is located, has 13 other voters registered under it including Khaled's son Akmal Saufi, adding that he is manipulating the electoral roll.
"It is disturbing to know that a Mentri Besar is so ignorant of the electoral and registration process in Malaysia. It is unacceptable that the EC is allowing such abuses to happen," she said.
Maria added that the EC must take responsibility for the matter and immediately rectify the error.
The Johor Opposition submitted hundreds of dubious voter details to the state EC office today, including that of the Mentri Besar.
Khaled reportedly denied any wrongdoing in the matter and defended the legitimacy of his voter registration.
