JOHOR BARU: The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, did not give any order prohibiting children under 18 from going out without parental supervision after 10pm.
In a statement uploaded on his official Facebook page today, Sultan Ibrahim denied giving the directive, which went viral on social media.
"Sultan Ibrahim denies and rejects the false statement disseminated via social media. Please be informed that the palace did not issue the order," said the statement on Facebook.
The purported message, which went viral last night, claimed that the Sultan of Johor had decreed that all children under 18 not be allowed to go out without adult supervision after 10pm with immediate effect following the cycling tragedy involving eight teenage boys.
The message also alleged that parents who did not adhere to the order would have to undergo two months of counselling.
Apart from that, it also alleged that errant parents might be jailed or fined RM5,000 for failing to exercise control over their children and that police would also be taking stern action against parents who disobeyed the order.
Eight boys were killed and eight more injured when a car hit them while they were cycling on Jalan Lingkaran Dalam here early on Saturday. — Bernama
