GEORGE TOWN: A Jawi Prison inmate has lapsed into unconsciousness again just a week after he regained consciousness.

His mother. P. Pachaee said her 42-year-old son was now warded at the Seberang Jaya Hospital intensive care unit (ICU).

She said her son's condition suddenly took a turn for the worse about 1pm today and doctors rushed him to the hospital.

"There is bleeding in the brain according to the doctors," she told theSun.

The 42-year-old inmate was admitted to the hospital on Feb 8 with injuries on his head and forehead, as well as bruises on his legs while the toenails were missing.

He was sent to prison on Jan 20 for a criminal offence and is expected to be released in May after serving for five months.

His mother, along with Deputy Chief Minister II P. Ramsamy, who heads the Custodial Death Penang Taskforce, has since urged for a thorough probe into how the injuries were sustained.

Penang police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye told theSun the investigation papers (IP) have been submitted to the public prosecutor for further action.

"The matter has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP)," he said when contacted and declined to elaborate when asked.
