Ganja worth RM180,000 seized from Pasir Gudang couple (Updated)

PASIR GUDANG: Drugs worth RM180,000 was seized from a couple during a raid on their rented home on Monday night.
Seri Alam OCPD Superintendent Jokhiri Abd Aziz said the husband and wife pair both aged 41, were arrested during the 11pm raid.
He said police seized 72 slabs of dried plants weighing 73,663 grammes believed to be ganja.
Jokhiri said the raid was carried out after his officers carried out surveillance in the area and also after they received information from the public.
He added that the couple is believed to have been involved in the drug business around Seri Alam, Johor Baru and Kota Tinggi since 2014.
Jokhiri said police also seized two cars, a Proton Inspira and Perodua Viva, valued at RM100,000 as well RM1,500 in cash.
Speaking at the Seri Alam police headquarters today, he said the amount of drugs seized can be distributed to 36,831 addicts for up to four months.
He said the man who is jobless tested positive for syabu while his wife’s drug’s test was negative.
He said both the suspects have been remanded for seven days up to Feb 27 starting today and they are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He said last year his officers seized various types of drugs with the street value of RM12,3 million and they also detained 1,706 individuals believed to be involved in drug abuse.
He added that 1,648 of them were locals who were detained under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1985 (Special Preventive Measures). — Bernama
