GEORGE TOWN: A 50-year-old logistics executive, identified as Ruby Lee Poh Ai, was shot dead as she was driving in Bayan Baru this evening.
Penang CID chief Zainol Samah said police were informed the woman was shot while travelling from Jalan Pekaka to Jalan Bukit Gambier at about 5.45pm.
He said two assailants on a motorcycle approached the victim’s car, and one of them whipped out a gun and fired at least 10 shots at point-blank range.
Zainol added that one of the bullets hit the victim’s chest while the other shots hit various parts of her body.
A video posted on social media, allegedly filmed by a witness immediately after the shooting, shows the victim’s car veering out of control and ramming into a four-wheel drive vehicle and a wall before coming to a stop, with its tyres still screeching on the road.
On speculation that the woman was pregnant, Zainol said investigations are ongoing and declined to elaborate.
However, he said the incident was not related to any gang nor illegal crime organisations.
“She is also not the wife of any datuk or datuk seri,” he stressed, and refuted rumours that the victim was the wife of a gang leader who was charged on Monday over gang activities.
“This is not connected to the datuk seri,” he said.
He said police will investigate all angles, including the victim’s family and friends, adding that the case will be investigated for murder under the Penal Code.
