Woman shot in Penang not related to triads (Updated)

GEORGE TOWN: Investigations into the killing of a businesswoman on Tuesday evening so far show no links to triad activities according to Penang police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye.

He nonetheless said police were working on all angles to determined the motive for the shooting of Ruby Lee Poh Ai, 50, and will follow all leads.

He said police were investigating all aspects including her business as well as the business activities of her husband who he confirmed as operating an entertainment outlet in Datuk Keramat.

“If it is triads we will declare it is triads, if it is not, we will say it is not,” he said in a press conference today after attending the monthly state police assembly.

The victim, who owns a logistics company, died after she was shot at close range at least 10 times during the 5.45pm incident.

Her attackers approached her car at Jalan Pekaka on a motorcycle before the pillion rider fired 10 shots into her white BMW and sped off.

Chuah said the shots were fired from a 9mm pistol and described the suspects as being a “danger to society”.

“These are dangerous people, we do not know if they are hired killers,” he said and urged those who have recorded the incident to share their recordings with the police to assist in the manhunt.

Chuah also said he was not aware if the victim had lodged police reports fearing for her life and that no weapons were recovered from the car.

“We have some leads, we hope to solve the case as soon as possible,” he added.
