Police refute allegation on child kidnappers

MIRI: The Sarawak police today refuted a Facebook posting on a warning by the police over a claim that a group of kidnappers is looking for prey in the state.
Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the posting on the warning by the police, specifically to schools, to be wary of two women who are part of a child kidnapping syndicate, was false.
He said the posting was accompanied with a photo of two dark-skinned women and two sketches apparently of the women who were part of the kidnapping syndicate.
Following checks, it was found that a similar story and sketches of the two women originated from a foreign country," he said in a statement here today.
Dev said police had arrested two people in connection with the Facebook posting, with the first arrest at 11.30am yesterday and the second at 2am today.
"The two individuals, one a security guard and the other a driver, both aged 25, admitted that they copied the posting from another Facebook account," he said.
He said the two Facebook account holders were being investigated for offences under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. — Bernama
