Book Review - Bridget Jones' Baby: The Diaries
WHO has not heard of the famous Bridget Jones, that slightly crazy heroine of author Helen Fielding’s imagination in the books, Bridget Jones’ Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason?
Well, the lady has grown up. In fact, her biological clock is ticking away very, very loudly, but being still single and seemingly fancy free, she has to endure the usual questions and remarks – until she suddenly finds herself unexpectedly pregnant.
Now, the crucial question is: ‘Who is the father?’ Of course, in true Bridget fashion, there are two contenders for that honour.
There is Mark Darcy, the honourable, decent, notable human rights lawyer, and there’s Daniel Cleaver, the charming, witty, notable unreliable character.
The two were Bridget’s exes and whose sole passion in life seems to be trying to outdo each other.
Bridget has fantasised going to a scan with Mark or Daniel – just not both at the same time. To her, they are two halves of the perfect man.
And as the men fall over themselves trying to come to terms with the situation, chaos and hilarity abound.
Written in diary form – naturally – it can get rather crazy at times.
Be forewarned, the language can only be described as colourful.
My favourite part is the intro, in the form of a letter to her son (yes, it's a boy!). Adorable!
