Madinah’s qualification as auditor-general raises eyebrows

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Madinah Mohamad's credentials as newly appointed auditor-general raises eyebrows, says Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4 Center).
Its executive director Cynthia Gabriel said that while Madinah might have the desired qualifications for other jobs, she possesses no auditing experience to date.
She said it was imperative that the post be filled by a person who has the specific knowledge and capability, skills and practical experience in key areas related to auditing, accounting and financial management.
"In this light, we are baffled by the choice of Madinah as auditor-general who clearly does not meet the criteria and requirements.
"What were the process and consideration taken by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak) in recommending her appointment? We ask for an explanation in this regard," she said in a statement.
Gabriel said while Madinah's husband's undying support for Najib also raised concerns over her ability to act independently, her qualification, or lack thereof, for such an important post was of more serious concern.
Madinah's husband, Umno Kepong chief Datuk Rizuan Abd Hamid, once declared he would die to defend Najib.
Madinah, who was former secretary-general for the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and Ministry of Education, will replace Tan Sri Ambrin Buang as the new auditor-general for two years beginning Feb 23.
She holds a Bachelors Degree (Honours) in Political Science from Universiti Sains Malaysia, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resource Development and a Doctorate in the field of Human Resource Management from Universiti Putra Malaysia.
