New form of ecstasy powder in market

JOHOR BARU: Night-goers have been warned against a new form of ecstasy powder which comes in a packet which looks like medication.
Johor Narcotics Criminal Investigations Department (NCID) chief Assistant Commissioner Lukas Aket said the police were in the midst of analyzing the chemical contents in the drugs seized.
He advised parents to alert their children of this new packaging.
Speaking to reporters at the Johor Police Contingent headquarters here today, he said police stumbled on this new ecstacy powder during a raid at a premise in Taman Sentosa where they arrested three local men aged between 20 and 32, after seizing 100 packets of the drugs on Tuesday evening.
He said, each packet contained 26 grams of drug which is believed to be ecstasy.
"This is the first of its kind we ever saw," he said, adding drug weighed 2.7kg with a street value of RM30,000.
Police believe these ecstasy were meant for locally made for local consumption.
Initial police investigation, Lukas said revealed the suspects were actively involved in drug distribution to entertainment outlets in Johor for the past one and half months.
One of the suspects, he added, also had previous criminal record while the other two were found positive for drug after a urine test was done.
Police also seized a BMW and a Perodua Alza.
The case is investigated under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
