Factory worker turned cartoonist attempts to set record

GEORGE TOWN: A factory worker turned cartoonist is attempting to create a Malaysian record of drawing the most caricatures in 24 hours.
On March 18, Penang-born Mohd Azmi Mohd Hussin, 33, said he will attempt his feat in front of Masjid Kapitan Keling here to enter the Malaysia Book of Records.
He said the record will be created if he is able to draw more than 250 caricatures and urged those interested to make their way to the mosque then.
Each caricature, he added, will take between three to five minutes and will be free but a box for donations will be provided to raise money for the White Cane Society of Penang, the Cancer Society of Malaysia and the National Kidney Foundation.
Also present at the press conference was Penang Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow and Qariah chairman Datuk Meera Mydin Mastan.
Mohd Azmi, or ME as his pen name, said the challenge for him will be to stay awake for 24 hours, noting that he was only allowed a 10 minute break every four hours.
He said the key to drawing caricatures was to pick a prominent feature, like the nose or a pair of glasses, of the person being drawn.
"Sometimes I get girls who are pretty but have no prominent features and that can be a challenge," he quipped.
