KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit ended slightly higher against the US dollar today as traders shifted away from the greenback`ahead of the release of the minutes for the Federal Reserve's latest meeting.
At 6pm, the local unit was traded at 4.4510/4540 against the US dollar versus 4.4555/4595 yesterday.
A dealer said traders would be closely monitoring the meeting's minutes for clues on the pace of interest rate increases this year.
Meanwhile, sentiment towards the ringgit was also lifted by higher global oil price, as this would potentially improve Malaysia's oil and gas revenue.
As at 4pm, international benchmark Brent crude was up 17 cents, or 0.3%, at US$56.83 per barrel.
Meanwhile, the local note was traded mixed against other major currencies.
It fell against the Singapore dollar to 3.1365/1406 from 3.1317/1352 yesterday and versus the yen, it decreased to 3.9334/9371 from 3.9166/9211 on Tuesday.
Vis-a-vis the euro, the ringgit appreciated to 4.6776/6812 from 4.6965/7017 yesterday and rose marginally against the British to 5.5366/5421 from 5.5368/5445 previously. — Bernama
