KLANG: North Korea's Ambassador to Malaysia Kang Chol had overstepped his boundaries when he cast doubt onto the investigation of Kim Jong-Nam's murder by Malaysian authorities.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said Kang's accusations and requests for a joint investigation were highly unusual and rude.
"Whatever crimes that happen, it will be handled according to the laws of the country where they happened. The ambassador did more than what his responsibilities have called for and he crossed the line.
"This is a diplomatic irregularity and he was rude in his comments," Hishammuddin told reporters after welcoming the Myanmar Food Flotilla home at the Boustead Cruise Centre today.
He said the quick arrests of those suspected to be involved shows that the investigation is in good hands and the government will continue ensuring that it will be conducted in an orderly manner according to international standards.
Hishammuddin also recounted his experiences when handling the MH370 and MH17 crises, when various accusations were hurled at the Malaysian government.
"We will rely on the facts and evidence before us, then nobody can accuse us of abusing our power and we will get to the bottom of this," he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak similarly said Kang was diplomatically rude today while Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman called his accusations baseless and delusional.
Kang said North Korea does not trust Malaysian authorities to conduct an impartial investigation, claiming that it was started for political purposes, and suggested a joint probe.
