17 food premises ordered to close around Nilai

    SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan State Health Department issued an order to close 17 food premises for violating the Food Act 1983 and Food Hygiene Regulations (PPKM) 2009, through an integrated operation three days ago.
    Negri Sembilan deputy director of Health (Public Health), Dr Zainudin Mohd Ali said during the operation, notices were issued to 48 premises and compounds totalling RM18,950.
    "The operation involved food premises around Nilai," he said in a statement here today adding that food premises found to have low hygiene level can be ordered closed for 14 days under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.
    "Food business operators and food handlers who do not comply with provisions under PPKM will be issued notices under Section 32B of the Food Act 1983, and ordered to appear in court," he said.
    Zainuddin said last year, the department had inspected 6,358 food premises and 124 of them had been ordered to close. — Bernama
