JOHOR BARU: Police arrested a teenager (male) who urged the public to gather and seek an audience with the Sultan of Johor over the recent accident involving young cyclists.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the 18-year-old teenager was detained at Taman Desa Cemerlang, Ulu Tiram at about 1.45am yesterday.
This follows a police report made by a member of the public on Monday in connection with a Facebook posting calling on the people, especially cycling youths, to gather and seek an audience with Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar as well as meet the police.
According to Wan Ahmad Najmuddin, the spread of the statement could threaten the nation's harmony and wellbeing.
"Following the arrest, police seized a Galaxy Note 2 hand phone for investigation," he said in a statement here today.
The case was being investigated under Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment up to one year or both, and a fine of RM1,000 for each subsequent sentence.
In the bicycle tragedy in Jalan Lingkaran Dalam here, eight teenagers (male) died while eight others were injured.
The accident occurred when a car driven by a woman went out of control and ploughed into the youths. — Bernama
