JOHOR BARU: The Home Ministry is mulling the possibility of introducing new laws to deal with juvenile delinquents in the wake of the Johor cycling tragedy.
Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed (pix) said many Western countries already have such laws which will enable the police to deal with youths who cause a nuisance in public.
Nur Jazlan was commenting on the incident where eight teenagers were killed while another eight were seriously injured after a car rammed into the group of about 30 to 40 cyclists at 3am last Saturday.
He was speaking to the media after a meeting with Johor Umno veterans at the Tan Sri Rahmat Hall in Tampoi today.
Commenting on a Facebook post which called on people, especially young cyclists to gather and seek and audience with the Sultan of Johor over the recent tragedy, he said the issue should not be politicised.
"We should focus on the problem of how to stop these illegal cycling activities instead" he said.
The teenager who made the posting was arrested by police on Thursday.
