SANDAKAN: Cooperation between schools and parents through the Parent-teacher Associations (PTA) is crucial to ensure quality learning for students, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

Besides acting as a link between parents and the school administration, he said, the PTA also serves as a good platform for brainstorming of ideas and suggestions.

"The PTA also acts as a community that can provide various services for the benefit of the school," he said when opening the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Merpati's PTA meeting here today.

The text of Musa's speech was read out by Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Zakaria Mohd Edris.

Musa said the PTA, with members comprising various professions, would certainly be able to ensure the success of various programmes to improve the academic performance of the students, as well as the schools' image.

Parents, he said, should not leave the task of teaching their children solely on the teachers as education starts from the family institution. — Bernama
