KOTA BARU: The Kelantan police crippled two drug smuggling syndicates with the arrest of two men and seizure of drug pills, worth RM40,000, since yesterday.

State police chief Datuk Dr Ab Rahman Ismail said one of the suspects, aged 57, was detained along Jalan Jelawang-Kuala Balah, Dabong, at about 4.45 pm yesterday.

Police seized 581 ecstasy pills which were found hidden in the engine compartment of a car he was travelling in, he added.

"The suspect, a labourer, is believed to be from the "Pok Heng" gang, which is from the neighbouring country, and active in Dabong," he told reporters here today.

He said the second suspect, aged 25, was detained when police raided a house in Kampung Parit Air, Rantau Panjang, about 1 am today.
Police found 1,200 Eramin 5 pills and 1,200 ecstasy pills in the house, he added.

He said the suspect, a local, is believed to be from the "Pok Nan" gang which is active in Rantau Panjang.

Both the suspects tested negative for drugs, he added. — Bernama
