Cycling tour aims to boost kidney disease awareness

PETALING JAYA: The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) in conjunction with World Kidney Day, will host a cycling tour from Kangar to Putrajaya to create awareness of the disease among Malaysians.
Dubbed "Kayuhan Amal Putrajaya", the 700km tour which kicks off on March 13 will see 30 members from the Selangor Paramedic Volunteers Association cycle and pit-stop at 16 hospitals participating in the national-level celebrations of World Kidney Day.
The cycling tour, to be launched by Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail at the Kangar Hospital, will also see participants distributing pamphlets, collecting signatures on a "special banner" as well as on the 2017 World Kidney Day National-level celebrations support book. They will also give health talks at the hospitals.
Participants of the cycling tour, who are scheduled to arrive in Putrajaya on March 18, aim to bring the public together to pledge their support to fight kidney-related diseases.
The opening ceremony of the 2017 World Kidney Day National-level celebrations will commence at 7am at the Putrajaya Botanic park where people will be treated to several fun-filled activities, including aerobics and a zumba programme, 5km fun run, colouring competition for primary and secondary school students as well as a lucky draw.
There will also be free health checks, CPR tutorials, health exhibitions, medical equipment and outdoor equipment sales booths and a blood donation campaign.
The Health Ministry, Malaysia Society of Nephrology and the Selangor Paramedic Volunteers Association are the event's co-organisers.
