STPM: Construction worker's daughter among those with 4.0 CGPA

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A construction worker's daughter is over the moon after she obtained a perfect 4.0 CGPA for her Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations.
 
Ng Lee Ping, 20, said her results were beyond her expectations, adding that she only went for two months of tuition but stopped due to the financial situation of her family.
 
She said her father, Ng Tiang Keat, 53, did not have a stable income due to the nature of his work while her mother, Lee Mooi Hua, 45, was a housewife.
 
"I want to continue my education at Universiti Malaysia (UM) in accounting as I want to provide a secure and stable future for my family," she said after receiving her results from Penang Education Department deputy director Mohd Jamil Mohamed at SMJK(C) Jit Sin here today.
 
Results for the examination in Penang sees an improvement after 44 STPM candidates out of 2,285 candidates obtained perfect scores this year compared to 26 in 2016.
 
Mohd Jamil said 18 schools statewide achieved 100% passes while SMJK(C) Jit Sin and SMJK(C) Chung Hwa Confucian were in the top 10 list nationwide.
 
Another top candidate, Ong Jia Eek, 20, who also scored a 4.0 CGPA, said he was pleasantly surprised with his achievement.
  
"I plan to further my studies in physiotherapy in Taiwan, I hope my application for a scholarship is successful," he added.
