KUALA LUMPUR: The Go For It! Cross Country run is back for another year on April 9 and title sponsor Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd is targeting to have 2,000 runners participate.
Sports Toto communications manager Giam Say Khoon said the company wishes to promote a healthy lifestyle through its sponsorship.
Giam said the run, which is a collaborative effort with the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Athletic Association (FTKLAA) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), offers variety from other runs.
"We are happy to work with FTKLAA in bringing back the cross country run. There are many running events held every weekend but a cross country run is rare. So we urge runners to try something different," he said.
The run will take runners through natural terrain and tarred roads near Padang Merbok and is divided into 9 categories as listed below.
1. 10.7km Men Senior (aged 18 years and above)
2. 10.7km Men Junior Veteran (aged 40 to 49 years)
3. 6.7km Women Senior (aged 18 years and above)
4. 6.7km Men Senior Veteran (aged 50 years and above)
5. 6.7km Women Veteran (aged 35 and above)
6. 6.7km Men Junior (aged 13 to 17 years)
7. 6.7km Women Junior (aged 13 to 17 years)
8. 3km Kids Run (Boys) (aged 9 to 12 years)
9. 3km Kids Run (Girls) (aged 9 to 12 years)
Each participant will receive an event T-shirt and a mini goodie bag while the top 5 in each category stand to win cash prizes totalling RM11,950.
Sports Toto will also be setting up game booths, quiz sessions, and lucky draws during the event where runners can win additional prizes.
"If runners are looking for a more challenging and thrilling run, then Go For It is what they are looking for," Giam said.
FTKLAA president Leo Leslie Armstrong thanked sponsors for their contribution as organisers would face severe financial constraints.
The run attracted 1,500 runners last year and other sponsors include Sports Toto Fitness Centre, Berjaya Roasters (M) Sdn Bhd, Apex Pharmacy, 100 Plus, Salonpas, and others.
It will be open to all Malaysians and foreigners with permanent residency status while registration will be closed on April 1 or upon reaching 3,000 runners.
