KOTA KINABALU: A passenger train heading to Beaufort crashed into a van today, killing three people and injuring four others in the vehicle, according to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department.

It said in a statement that the three people, yet to be identified, died at the scene in the accident which occurred at about 3pm.

"The particulars of the dead have yet to be obtained," it said.

The department said the four injured people included an eight-month-old baby girl, and they were sent to the nearest hospital.

They were Sufiana Razali, Misah Maznun, Lamisah Maznun and Siti Nur Farhena Maznun, eight months, it said.

The department said a fire and rescue team from Beaufort rushed to the scene upon being notified and removed the people trapped in the van. — Bernama
