LABUAN: The Labuan Health Department is organising a 'gotong-royong' (mutual help) exercise against dengue in Kiansam here following the detection of two cases on the island this year.
Its director, Dr Ismuni Bohari, said the department's enforcement unit had identified several localities where the Aedes mosquito, carrier of the dengue virus, could breed.
He said two children, aged 14 and nine, who lived in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) resettlement in Kiansam had sought treatment for dengue at the government clinic last week after developing fever and had since been discharged.
The department would undertake to stop the spread of the disease, he said to Bernama today.
He said the department would also step up the Communication-for-Behavioural-Impact (COMBI) method in its effort to check the disease.
"Everyone has to play his or her part in the fight against dengue because we are all at risk, and we are doing our best to minimise the cases this year," he said. — Bernama
