State exco takes leave over son's alleged involvement in Johor land scandal

ISKANDAR PUTRI: State executive councillor Datuk Abd Latif Bandi has taken leave in lieu of his son being suspected by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to be involved in the million ringgit land scandal in the state.
The scandal involved the conversion of bumiputra housing lots to non-bumiputra lots.
Abd Latif tendered his request for leave to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin today, just before the State Executive Council meeting at Kota Iskandar and it was accepted.
His leave takes effect from today till further notice. He is the first exco to take leave due to an alleged scandal investigation under the current leadership.
On Friday, MACC officers arrested six people, including Ahmad Fauzan Hatim Abdul Latiff, who is the eldest son of Housing and Local Govern­ment Committee chairman Abd Latiff, as well as his special officer.
Others arrested included two developers and a lawyer. The MACC has obtained a seven-day remand order against the six.
Also seized during the sting operation were 21 luxury cars and five high-powered motorcycles from luxury brands such as Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Range Rover and Harley Davidson.
A total of 45 bank accounts with RM15.5 million belonging to the six suspects has been frozen.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki had said that the investigations were ongoing into the scandal.
