PETALING JAYA: LKL International Bhd is teaming up with TMI Solutions Pvt Ltd to distribute selected Nihon Kohden-branded medical devices in Malaysia.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, the company said its wholly owned subsidiaries Medik Gen Sdn Bhd and LKL Advance Metaltech Sdn Bhd had entered into a joint-venture agreement with TMI to form a company, TMI Medik Group Sdn Bhd (TMG).
LKL International will hold a 70% stake in TMG and the rest by TMI. TMG will have three directors on the board, one to be nominated by TMI and two by Medik Gen.
LKL International, which is involved in the provision of medical/healthcare beds, peripherals and accessories, said the joint venture complements its existing business in the healthcare sector and will enable it to diversify its product offerings.
“We are excited to embark on this complementary venture with TMI and leverage as well as capitalise on each other’s expertise, experience and resources to ensure the highest quality products and services are delivered,” LKL International managing director Lim Kon Lian said in a statement yesterday.
The exclusive distributorship right is expected to be awarded by Nihon Kohden Singapore Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Nihon Kohden Corp, for a minimum period of three years in Malaysia.

The business activities to be carried out by the joint-venture company, which will begin within three months, is expected to contribute positively to LKL International’s earnings in the near future.
Nihon Kohden Corp is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and is the manufacturer, developer and distributor of medical devices such as patient monitors, defibrillators as well as neurosurgical equipment such as electrocardiogram machine, electroencephalogram machine and electromyography machine.
Incorporated in Sri Lanka, TMI’s principal activity is the provision of medical devices. It currently operates by partnering medical equipment manufacturers to provide medical products to the Sri Lankan market.
