ALOR STAR: Five projects involving the upgrade of water treatment plants worth more than RM500 million will be implemented by end of this year to solve water woes in Kedah.
State Local Government, Housing, Water and Energy Resources Committee chairman Datuk Badrol Hisham Hashim (pix) said the five projects that were expected to begin in September, were long-term measures in addressing the water woes, particularly in rapidly developed areas.
"Among the main focus is the upgrading the old water treatment plants and the raw water piping system," he said in a briefing on the supply of water during the draught season by Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd (SADA) at Wisma Negeri here yesterday.
The five projects involve the Air Pelubang Water Treatment Plant, Bukit Selambau (Merbok) Water Treatment Plant, Sungai Limau (Baling) Water Treatment Plant, Buntar Lama Water Treatment Plant and Jenun Baru Water Treatment Plant (Yan and Pendang). — Bernama
